3:30pm: KINGS (2006) 89 min.
Directed by Tom Collins
Irish Gaelic with English subtitles
The first feature film in Irish Gaelic to be selected as
Ireland’s entry for Best Foreign
Language Film in the Academy Awards. Kings is the story of a
group of young friends who emigrated to England in the late 70s,
promising to return to Ireland rich and successful. Thirty years
later, the men reunite at a wake after one of them suddenly dies.
Hardened by years of disappointment and drink, they quickly realize
that their bonds of friendship have weakened, and they are confronted
with the bitter reality of their lives. Colm Meany heads a stellar
ensemble cast in this film with heart-breaking relevance to the
lives of long-term migrants the world over.
Due to pervasive strong language and adult themes, this film
is for mature audiences only.
